“It’s really empowering to be a female bus driver in a male-dominated industry, especially when the company prioritises our wellbeing.” Betzy Gamara, Bus Operator
For Betzy, driving provides the perfect blend of convenience and enjoyment, “I have rostered shifts that vary from week to week. It means that I can balance work and family time. In a part-time role I can still do the school run, and bring in a good income.”

Betzy finds driving very rewarding, “My role is incredibly important to the community. I get to be the face of the company and my passengers rely on me to get them from A-B safely, and on time. Plus there’s a real appeal in being outside in different places, dealing with different people.”

She often gets recognised by passengers for her positive work ethic. It’s the customer ‘thanks’ that keep her motivated. “I’m a people person and I think that really matters; passengers remember when we go above and beyond. Our work can really make an impact.”

Despite working in a male-dominated industry, she always feels safe and supported whilst on the job. There are different kinds of technology and devices that not only minimise risks whilst driving, but guarantee safe passage for her customers too. “We have the latest security cameras and GPS navigation to help us stay safe and on track. It’s really empowering to be a female bus driver in a male-dominated industry, especially when the company prioritises our wellbeing.”

And to be part of a growing company means a lot, even for someone on the frontline. “It’s exciting to be playing a part in Transdev’s growth. Although it’s big company and we’ve restructured, we still maintain a good culture and new opportunities are always coming up.”

“With the skills I’ve picked up on the road, a move into planning, scheduling or even mechanics would suit me. And who knows? It might make me feel as good as I do when I’m driving people home safe and sound.”

How can we help you to move forward?
